I had a great experience purchasing my new camera (Canon 20D). The decision to get a new body was actually a hard one. This is mainly because the old camera that we were using (Digital Rebel) takes really good pictures! I made the decision for a a couple reasons:
- I was starting to feel the limitations of the our old camera; specifically, the Digital Rebel’s fastest shutter-speed was 1/4000sec vs. 1/8000sec for the 20D.
- The 20D performs better (less noise) at high ISO’s.
- The used 20D market finally hit a sweet spot for price, it is now two generations old (there’s the slightly newer 30D and the just-released 40D) and has gone from completely out of reach ($1200) to less than half of that used.
That being said, I still wasn’t completetly convinced to purchase the camera but Kristine talked me into it. I know what you’re thinking and you are correct, Kristine is the best wife ever. We figured that if we sold the old camera as well as one of our lenses then it would end up almost being a wash.
Finally, I must say that the seller of the camera was REALLY nice, he even offered to let me load test-pictures on his computer while I was testing out the camera. He also gets points because his wife played with Isabel while I was sizing up the camera (evidently Isabel really likes Scotch Tape). So kudos to him as well as to Craigslist.
