Are we truly a generation of slackers?
Is it me or does the older generation constantly harp on how we lack the work ethic of their generation? Are they just trying to trump themselves up or are we really that lazy? If work ethic declines with each new generation , then the opposite is true too right? That means that if we were to go back a thousand years or so, the world would be populated with uber-workers who needed neither sleep nor food to sustain their fantastical (yes fantastical) labors. Also it means that in a 100 years, youth will not have sufficient work ethic to even breathe and will die as soon as they can be lazy.
Now I’m now defending myself.. If not for my bills or my responsibilities, I would be content to fill my days playing old Sierra games and Slashdot articles. My laziness and more importantly, my complacency are things that I must constantly battle to keep from stagnating. But did prior generations have such struggles with laziness? I really don’t think so. Actually, I think that my laziness springs from one man. Yes, Shigeru Miyamoto, I salute you and your contribution to slackeritude across the globe!
